Shawn Henderson for Alt For Living
Negative Space is the first rug collection created by interior designer Shawn Henderson and Analisse Taft-Gersten, founder of ALT for Living. The collaboration is the natural result of a creative friendship that has spanned more than two decades, shaped by shared values of restraint, proportion, and a deep appreciation for quiet design.
The collection looks at rugs not simply as decorative elements, but as foundations that shape how space is felt and experienced. Each piece is handwoven in Nepal by skilled artisans using carefully selected silk and wool, chosen for their texture, depth, and gentle sheen. Together, they form a dialogue between floor, room, and architecture, inviting us to see negative space not as absence but as an intentional part of design. Subtle shifts in tone and texture explore the tension between positive and negative space. Some designs present calm expanses of wool accented with geometric silk forms, while others layer materials to create compositions that move gently underfoot. Throughout the collection, simplicity reveals itself as richness, and the understated becomes quietly expressive.
